Privacy Policy
In short: we do not ask you for personal information, and the tracking that does happen comes from the advertising that keeps the site free.
This policy explains how probirdfeeder.com ("we", "the site") handles information about visitors. It applies to everything under the probirdfeeder.com domain.
The short version#
- We do not run user accounts, newsletters, comment forms or shopping carts, so we do not ask you for a name, an email address or a payment method.
- The site is funded by advertising. Our advertising partners set cookies and use similar technologies, and that is the main way data about your visit is collected.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time using the links further down this page.
Information we collect directly#
Almost none. ProBirdFeeder is a static site. There are no accounts, no logins and no forms. The only way to send us information is by choosing to email us via the contact page, in which case we hold your message and address only for as long as it takes to reply and to fix anything you reported.
Our web host records standard server log information as part of serving pages: IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time of the request. This is used to keep the site running and secure, and is not combined with anything else or used to build a profile.
Cookies and advertising#
The site displays advertising supplied by third parties, including Google. To do this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use non-cookie technologies such as device identifiers or local storage for measurement, frequency capping and fraud prevention.
We do not control these cookies and we do not receive the personal data they involve. What we receive is aggregate reporting: how many times an ad was shown, roughly where in the world visitors came from, and how much revenue was earned.
Opting out of personalized advertising#
You have several independent controls:
- Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com lets you turn off ad personalization across Google's services.
- aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu offer industry-wide opt-outs covering many networks at once.
- Your browser settings can block or delete third-party cookies entirely. The site works normally without them; you will simply see less relevant ads.
Users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent message before personalized advertising cookies are set, as required by law, and can change that choice at any time.
Your rights#
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you, and to object to certain processing.
- If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland (GDPR): the legal basis for advertising cookies is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time. The legal basis for server logs is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website.
- If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell or share personal information in exchange for money. Advertising activity on this site may nonetheless count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law, and the opt-out links above are the mechanism for stopping it.
Because we hold almost nothing about you directly, most requests are better directed to the advertising networks themselves. If you want to ask us, write to hello@probirdfeeder.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Children#
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through the contact email, write to us and we will delete it.
External links#
Guides on this site link to outside organizations such as the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Project FeederWatch, Audubon and government wildlife agencies. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control. We link to them because they are worth reading, not because we have any commercial arrangement with them.
Security and data retention#
The site is served over HTTPS. Server logs are retained only as long as needed for operational and security purposes. We do not maintain a customer database, because there is nothing in it.
Changes to this policy#
If this policy changes materially, the update date at the top of the page changes with it, and the previous position is not quietly rewritten. Advertising and analytics arrangements are the most likely thing to change, and any such change will be reflected here before it takes effect.
